Twitter Rolls Out Hide Replies Feature For Global Users To Curb Hate And Abusive Content

Popular microblogging site Twitter has launched its Hide Replies feature. The new feature will allow users to hide replies to their tweets which they feel are worthless. The Hide Replies option is available for Twitter users worldwide. The service is available across all platforms including iOS, Android, Twitter Lite and The San Francisco-based social networking company in a statement said its new feature will give members to control the discussion on the platform. It tested the feature for months before the launch. The feature was first tested in Canada in July this year. It was then tested in the US and Japan. Twitter said the new feature is yielding results as expected and is helpful for users who feel replies to their posts are irrelevant and spread misinformation.

The company said that anyone can choose to hide replies to their posts by just one click. Twitter said that it has added a gray icon that enables its members to use the facility. The gray icon will appear on the Tweets. However, everyone can see and engage with hidden replies. It means replies will not be deleted from the page. To read the hidden replies and posts, users will have to just tap the gray icon. This also means people can still see the entire conversation. According to the company, it is yet another step from its side to prevent the misuse of the platform. It said that the feature will also curb hate and abusive content.

Earlier in September, Twitter had provided a new tool to its users to enable them hideaway unwanted direct messages. Using this tool, users who were receiving direct messages from people they don’t follow are able to automatically route such messages to a secondary folder. In 2016, Twitter allowed its users to mute notifications based on keywords and phrases. The statement added that it is also working on new controls to bring more clarity on the rules of conversation.
